Boymans Van Beuningen Museum
Situated 1km/.75mile south of the Central Station, a building erected in 1935 houses the world- famed Boymans-van Beuningen Museum, with a magnificent collection of pictures, sculpture, applied and decorative art (including Persian, Spanish, Italian and Dutch majolica, porcelain, glass, silver, pewter, lace and furniture), drawings and prints. The museum can also be reached from the Westblaak.
This is one of the great museums of the Netherlands, with its collections - originally assembled by F. J. O. Boymans (d. 1847) and since then much enlarged - displayed in light modern rooms. The painters of the 14th- 16th centuries are particularly well represented, with works by Hubert and Jan van Eyck, Geertgen tot St Jans, the Master of Aix, the Master of the Virgo inter Virgines, Hieronymus Bosch, Hans Memling, Quentin Matsys, Lucas van Leyden, Jan van Scorel and Pieter Bruegel the Elder. The 17th century is represented by Pieter Saenredam, Frans Hals, Rembrandt (including a portrait of his son Titus), Carel Fabritius, Jan Steen and Rubens (26 works); also landscapes by Hercules Seghers, Philips Koninck, Jacob van Ruisdael and Hobbema.
Among Italian painters of the 15th-18th centuries are Vincenzo Foppa, Giambattista Moroni, Titian ("Boy with Dogs"), Tintoretto, Veronese, Guardi and Tiepolo ("Golgotha"). French painters of the 18th century include Watteau, Chardin, Boucher, Nicolas Lancret, J. Pater and Hubert Robert; of the 19th century Daudier, Boudin, Monet, Pissarro, Signac and Gauguin. There are also a number of pictures by Van Gogh.
Among contemporary painters represented are Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Kandinsky, Franz Marc, Ensor, Tytgat, Permeke, Rik Wouters and Kees van Dongen. The D. G. van Beuningen collection of 104 pictures and 27 sculptures, acquired in 1958, includes works by Hubert and Jan van Eyck ("The Three Marys at Christ's Tomb") and Pieter Bruegel the Elder ("Tower of Babel").

KunstHAL
To be found at this attraction are a variety of constantly changing exhibitions on visual arts, design, photography, architecture and cultures originating in the Eastern world.

Show-Cube
From Churchillplein two wide streets go off - the Blaak on the left and the Westblaak on the right. The Blaak joins the Overblaak, in which is a striking example of modern architecture by Piet Blom, the Kijk-Kubus, a block of houses with cube-shaped upper stories. Some of the houses, which are fully furnished, can be visited. The scheme is explained and illustrated by photographs, videos and other illustrative material.
Near the Grote Kerk are the "pile dwellings", a modern housing project.
Here visitors can experience the sensation of living in one of Piet Blom's cube houses.

The Erasmus Bridge
The Erasmusbrug ("Erasmus Bridge") is a cable stayed bridge across the Nieuwe Maas river, linking the northern and southern halves of the city of Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The Erasmusbrug was designed by Ben van Berkel and completed in 1996. The 808 metre long bridge has a 139 metre-high asymmetrical pylon, earning the bridge its nickname of "The Swan".
The southern span of the bridge has a 89 metre long bascule bridge for ships that cannot pass under the bridge. The bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest in West Europe and has the largest panel of its type in the world.
The bridge was officially opened by Queen Beatrix on September 6, 1996, having cost 165 million Dutch guilders (about 75 million Euros) to construct. Shortly after the bridge opened to traffic in October 1996, it was discovered the bridge would swing under particularly strong wind conditions. To reduce the trembling, stronger shock dampeners were installed.
